Trenchless pipe repair in Boston, MA , having been around for only about 10 to 15 years, is still something of a new technology in pipeline restoration and rehabilitation. And we at New England Pipe Restoration, are experts at this new approach. If you are unfamiliar with this method of repair, we answer some of the most common questions we get below:
What Is Trenchless Pipe Lining?
Trenchless pipe lining is a low-impact form of repair. Where a traditional dig-up approach would require extensive machinery and excavation, trenchless sewer replacement and repair only needs to excavate access points through which the experts at New England Pipe Restoration can carry out the rest of the process entirely underground.
How Does the Lining Process Work?
The trenchless lining process begins with a camera inspection that checks for breaks, corrosion or even intruding tree roots. A follow-up cleaning clears any blockages from debris, corrosion or roots. The lining itself consists of an epoxy-impregnated flexible liner that inflates into the existing line. Known as a CIPP, or cured-in-place pipe lining, the liner form-fits and hardens to establish an entirely new and tough internal pipeline that covers all cracks or misalignments and counteracts intruding tree roots.
How Much Does It Cost?
While trenchless sewer repair can cost about a third more than traditional digging, it ultimately saves you money. Digging up a yard has secondary consequences, including the cost, resources and labor needed for soil replacement, yard rehabilitation and transportation of old pipes and any excess earth. Epoxy resin liners have similar characteristics to PVC pipes as well and can last as many as 50 years, also saving in later repair costs.
How Long Does It Take?
Trenchless pipe replacement only requires three to four operators and minimal machinery and digging time. While there may be some prep time involved the day before and some municipal-code inspection the day after, the actual repair and lining process can usually be completed in one workday.
