The Different Types of Trenchless Pipe Lining Solutions

drain cleaning in Newton, MA

Traditional methods of fixing sewer problems often involve a lot of excavation. However, digging trenches to access the affected areas of sewer lines can destroy yards and well-maintained lawns. Trenchless methods are an excellent alternative to traditional repairs.

Trenchless repairs are not as invasive, and they require less digging than traditional methods. With trenchless solutions, your lawn will remain intact even after carrying out sewer repairs. Trenchless repairs are also pocket-friendly and take less time to complete. At New England Pipe Restoration, we offer trenchless pipe lining in Newton, MA, and would like to educate homeowners on the different methods we use below:

Cured-in-Place Pipelining (CIPP)

CIPP pipe lining strengthens a broken pipe internally using epoxy. After installing an epoxy-soaked liner in an existing pipe, a plumber stretches the liner with a specific tool, leaving it to dry and harden in the form of the current line. The liner fixes damage and cracks in the existing pipe when it cures. CIPP pipe lining is cheaper than other sewer repair methods and does not need any digging.

Slip Lining

The first among trenchless pipe lining solutions, it is done by inserting a liner in a pipe to stop any leaks. It is suitable for cast iron pipe lining that has deteriorated due to wear and tear. Typically, the liner is made with plastic components. The process requires digging two holes which serve as entry and exit points for the existing pipe. It also increases the size of the existing pipe.

Pipe Bursting

This method of sewer pipe lining involves replacing a damaged sewer pipe by passing a bursting head through it. A new liner is installed by fixing it to the bursting head, which runs through the old pipe. The damaged pipe is broken and pushed away, paving the way for the new one. It involves some digging, but not as much as conventional methods. The advantage of this method is that it completely removes the damaged pipe and installs a new one.
